The Chain Animation is a concept of cartoon film making where one group start a sequence and another group prolong the work done. FAXCINATION started to developped this concept in 1995 with the use of the fax machine to send the sequences from one country to another. Doing that, the project aimed at providing the groups with a creative simulation of the internet realities (such as networking) before internet became available. Today the internet is there, and also present in many developing countries. But it is seldom used for networking creations. FAXCINATION uses the animation as a non-verbal language where groups from any country can join in. We started with simple faxed pages (FAXFILM pages) of 2D animation. Today, 3D are getting more accessible, in the RICE ROAD we have tried, and probably succeed to adapt the concept into 3D "chain animation". What remain from the previous experiences is the methodology of creation over the borders.

3D animation from Hanoi

The work done by the students at IFI counted for 20% of their final note at IFI

Sequences of 3D animation from IFI - Hanoi have been sent by FAXCINATION to the French association Animacao.

The students group and the kids group used different technique to generate these animation. IFI used the POV-Ray programme. Kids used a programme developped by the Animacao and the ITRIT research centre in Toulouse - France. This programme generates animation in real time.

3D animation from Toulouse
The workshop organized for the children gave them several opportunity to discover new environments. First they discovered how a Cartoon film is made, Second they discovered about Vietnam. The animacao organizers made web research with the kids. They also listen to Vietnamese traditional music. Finally they learned how to create in a network starting from the last image of a sequence made at IFI in Hanoi
